The Program
Teenage pregnancy and parenthood continues to be a growing concern in America. About 4 out of 10 girls in the United States will get pregnant by age 20 - about 1-million of them each year and some 10,000 infants are born to girls under 15. Each year, 20 million babies are born too soon, too small and very sick-half a million of them in the United States. Project Reassurance was conceived as a vehicle for the sorority to address this growing concern of teenage pregnancy.
Through Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority's Signature Program, Project Reassurance, Themed: H3 : It's All about Me- Healthy Choices, Healthy Living, Healthy Generations, focuses on the prevention of teen pregnancy.
Healthy Choices promotes the importance of self-love, a positive self-image and self-respect. Click here for more information about Healthy Choices Programming.
Healthy Living emphasizes a healthy lifestyle by exploring ways to develop and maintain good physical and mental health for yourself, your children and to help develop a healthy community. Click here for more information about Healthy Living Programming.
Healthy Generations includes the importance of prenatal care and healthy baby services. Each module mentioned will fulfill the vision of the program by encompassing four major touch points: Physical Health, Mental Health, Safe Communities and Protecting the Future.Originally developed as a partnership with the March of Dimes to prevent teen pregnancy, Project Reassurance offers opportunities for expectant teenage parents to participate in educational programs that assist them in making informed decisions related to health, responsible childbearing and parenting. Through local workshops and "Community BabyShowers" chapters provide community wide education about the importance of and access to early and regular prenatal care for young mothers, information and access to community resources and exposure and relationships with adults that will enhance young mothers' capacity for self-sufficiency and broaden their life options. Click here for more information about Healthy Generations Programming.
Under the direction of our 22nd International Grand Basileus Joann Loveless, Project Reassurance continues to evolve and now encompasses strategies to prevent teen pregnancy rather than just respond to it; a more proactive approach that enables us to address the problem in its totality. Grand Basileus Joann Loveless has designated Project Reassurance, and the theme H3: It's AllAbout Me - Healthy Choices, Healthy Living, Healthy Generations, as the primary communityservice focus area.
