Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. extends our condolences to Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in the passing of International President
Cheryl A. Hickmon, and joinsin honorable reflection of her life and
legacy.
We recognize that President Hickmon’s contributions to Delta Sigma
Theta encompass being a Golden Life Member with over 35 years of
service, leadership and commitment. She held notable roles including
National First Vice President, National Secretary, Eastern Regional
Director and Chapter President of the Hartford Alumnae and Alpha Xi
Chapters.
Her passion for women’s health was demonstrated through her
professional responsibilities at Montefiore’s Institute for Reproductive
Medicine and Health. In service to the community, she was actively involved in the Children’s Defense
Fund movement, National Council of Negro Women and NAACP. Within her well-deserved list of
honors and achievements, she received the award for “100 Most Influential African Americans in the
State of Connecticut” by the Connecticut Chapters of the NAACP.
President Hickmon’s zest for life was fueled in part by adrenaline rushing activities and being a founding
member of the Thrillseekers, Inc. Ski and Adventure Club of New York.
While her earthly transition is an immense loss, we hold space for the joy that her presence and impact
brought to her family, friends, colleagues, Delta Sigma Theta, and networks that span across local
communities and the globe.
We pray solace is found in recognition of her purpose-filled life.
Sincerely,
Rasheeda S. Liberty, International Grand Basileus
