Indianapolis, IN – In honor of the contributions and commitment to Butler University and the Indianapolis area, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will have a street designation ceremony on Friday, November 11th at 10:00 am EST.

“Today is symbolic for Sigma Gamma Rho as it is yet another opportunity for us to solidify the vision set forth a century ago. Seven profound women transformed not only Butler University and the city of Indianapolis but the world. We are grateful today,” said Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. President Rasheeda Liberty.

The street dedication will be a permanent designation that signifies the contribution of the sorority to the Butler University community as well as the surrounding Indianapolis community.

“I want to thank the City of Indianapolis for honoring Sigma Gamma Rho sorority’s founding in Indianapolis on Butler University’s campus 100 years ago,” Butler University President Danko said. “The entire Butler community is incredibly proud of our ties to the sorority, and even prouder of the impact Sigma Gamma Rho alumnae have had over the past century in the communities they serve. Theirs is a legacy of which the entire city of Indianapolis should be proud.”

With service initiatives, like Swim 1922 and the ongoing partnership with March of Dimes, the impact of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is felt by not only the University community but the wider Indianapolis community as well.

“The City of Indianapolis is proud to honor a century of Sigma Gamma Rho at Butler University with this street dedication,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “For students, residents, and visitors, this sign will point to a legacy that is as courageous as it is trailblazing for all Indianapolis.”
